May 2008: Novalys' PowerBuilder Worldwide Survey
As every year, many of you replied in 2007 to our wide survey
of PowerBuilder users.
The thousands of responses we received clearly demonstrate that
PowerBuilder projects are increasingly embracing Microsoft technology.
Help us monitor these changes by completing our 2008 survey.
You will then be able to access full 2007 results
You’ll discover:
- How PowerBuilder projects have developed between 2001 and 2007
- How large PowerBuilder projects differ from small ones in terms
of architecture
- How the test of strength is going between Java and DotNET
- How many PB projects used .NET in 2007
Let's learn more about the worldwide use of PB in 2006!
What is the average size of a PowerBuilder project?
What type of application is currently developed with PB?
Which other tools are used along with PB?
What are the expectations of PowerBuilder users?
You will have access to 2005 results

November 2005: Novalys launch Visual Expert for PL/SQL
This new version of Visual Expert analyses PL/SQL code
Navigation in the application:
Consult the stored procedures, packages, PL/SQL blocs ... of your
application.
Explore the source code in the source view: any reference found
in the code comes with an hyperlink to jump to the referenced
code.
Toutes les fonctionnalités de VE sont maintenant disponibles
pour PL/SQL, comme pour PowerBuilder ou Visual Basic !
Global impact analysis: If you need to change some PL/SQL
code, a table or a column, Visual Expert can list all components
related to this item.
For instance, you can ask for all triggers, cursors, functions
and procedure including SQL statements using a DB column, as well
as a %rowtype definition.
Visual Expert can list them to help you evaluate the consequences
of a change.
In case you developed PowerBuilder applications any PowerBuilder-to-PL/SQL
reference is also taken into account.
We just published the September issues of our PowerBuilder newsletter.
You will read about 2 interesting white papers on PowerBuilder,
.Net and Java published by Sybase.

July 2002: New Product Reviews on Visual Expert
Comprehensive Application Documentation and Impact Analysis.
Bill GREEN - TeamSybase:
"The tool should be a must-have on any software consultant’s
list, and can provide a significant benefit to any user of the
product regardless of the developers experience level with PowerBuilder."
(Read
the complete product review...)
A powerful tool to become familiar with a new application!
George MIKHAILOVSKY: "More you
work with the Visual Expert - more you understand how convenient
it is. I cannot remember so powerful tool that allows a user
to become familiar with a new application in literally in a
few hours."
(Read
the complete product review...)
A few minutes to constructively review the application architecture,
regardless its size
Katerina GIANNAKELI:
"It takes only a few minutes to familiarize yourself with
the Visual Expert interface and even less to constructively
review the application architecture, regardless its size. I
would strongly recommend you try Visual Expert out. I am positive
that you will find out that this tool is missing from your software
library!"

Using the PB 8 Web DataWindow in ASP
(new technical article)
Are you tired of data listed in tables on your
website?
"Do you want to put those DataWindows you have spent so
much time developing for your client-server application onto your
website ? If you have a Microsoft Server with IIS 5.0 running,
it really is a simple project."
Bill Green - Team Sybase:
Given our propensity as developers to avoid any task that takes
too much time to perform, avoid documentation at almost any cost,
and make changes to applications relying on our testing practices
to determine the impact, it's my opinion that this tool would
go a long way to making many of our lives easier, and our jobs
less risky.
It will help to reduce the risk of change to any application,
and provides a mechanism to provide accurate and up-to-date documentation
of our applications. The tool should be a must-have on any software
consultant's list, and can provide a significant benefit to any
user of the product regardless of the developers experience level
with PowerBuilder."
